I want to know how Adam knew that was his name if there was nobody to tell him?

Today's sweet puzzle.Smile
I have a chocolate bar with grooves in it. The grooves divide the bar into a 3 by 6 pattern.
I want
to divide this into 18 pieces but the chocolate is thick enough that I an only break a single piece at a time.

What is the least number of breaks I can make?
17 breaks?
That's how I read it JJB but I'm expecting a different answer
According to the Puzzle Pad, the answer is indeed 17.
I was expecting some really complicated solution!
