Which number replaces the question mark?

23 (529) 185        16 (256) 326          64 (4096) ?

Don't know which puzzle you're answering, Mark, but this one is unanswered .............and its not 10. Smile
That doesn't look simple. The middle no. is the square of the first but after that...
It had me stumped too so I cheated and looked at the answer.Wink

If you want a start, look at the relationship between the first numbers and those inside the bracket. However, that's a bit of a red herring. The key to ? is the (number) and the one that follows.
Thanks VC, annoyingly I've got as far as working out the relationship between first two numbers, I'm just Tring to sort how the middle number gets the third
The first step is not arithmetical, the second step is!
Hhmmmm, 1726 is my guess.
No comment. Wink
That's not so easy if I'm right.
I get 1726 as well. i think you'd have to be a maths wizard to get that answer without a clue.
Wow, I really went back and forth on this one, but thankfully the clues (and others giving the correct answer) got me there in the end!
