Or Ustilago maydis or corn smut

Said to be a delicacy in Mexico, I'm not sure I'm going to try it.

  Growing in Crates

I've acquired about 12 of these crates (green ones) and I have a vague plan on how to use them.

First, I'd like to know what you would use them for - then I'll tell you my idea. Big Grin

Greek Oregano - vulgare var. hirtum

I'm back with more her questions Smile

I need more foliage for cut flowers...

I have been try to make lots of mint cuttings - I would like more but not got any beds dug yet so maybe that's a good thing, anyway I've been researching further and I believe this oregano may be good for cut flower bunches.

I really think some of the herb smells make a bunch....

So this oregano I'm going to try from seed - anyone else grow it from seed? Obviously I want it now :F so I'm going to try autumn sowing and keeping it in the greenhouse.

Any others I should try? I really need more foliage/greens

Wat chall growing in the greenhouse/polytunnel over winter.

Thread brought on by a mention in another thread of growing spring cabbage over winter in greenhouse. Personally I have grown garlic, broad beans and cabbages over winter in the past.
I need some inspiration (and please don't say boring lettuce) for what to grow in a greenhouse with lots of panes of glass missing over winter this year! Smile

Who grows Spring cabbages?
Which ones do you grow and when do you sow them please?
Now for the difficult question................ could you sow any cabbage now and eat it in spring as a looseleaved cabbage and leave some to heart up for summer?
As you know, I don't have much success with brassicas but feel the need to try!

Because of the drought all the non-greasy washing up water is going on the veg plot at the moment.
After a mega passata bottling session I was left with a bowl full of very red water containing loads of tomatoey bits, seeds and skin, but MrPP thinks I shouldn't be chucking it onto the tomatoes!
Not sure if he thinks they might go rogue or what  Big Grin

  Red Veg
Posted by: Veggie - 29-08-2022, 11:14 PM - Replies (10)

Just read another recommendation for growing red, rather than green veg, as they are less attractive to pests.
Can I ask the G&G panel if they have noticed any difference between green & red veg in terms of pest damage.
Can you recommend any Red veg to grow?
I've lost all of my PSBs and Calabrese to the pesky caterpillars this year, before I even got round to planting them out! Maybe a Red Veg Bed is the answer?

  Pea/Bean Netting?
Posted by: Scarlet - 28-08-2022, 07:54 PM - Replies (12)

Does anyone use it? That plastic square stuff.

I got myself some jute netting once and it only lasted one season and cost a fortune.

I need to use the nets to keep my flowers straight. Just planted up some foxgloves and some campanula.

For the dahlias I have used old poultry netting ( some squares are a bit small but I can keep reusing it so that's good for me.

I need mine at least 1.5 metres wide...my beds are 14 & 30ish foot long - any idea where I can get some at a decent price.

What colour is your front door?

Just interested as we are currently choosing colours for doors and windows at the moment. We’ve decided what colour we’re going to go with. I’ll tell you later  Big Grin .
