Huitlacoche - JJB - 04-09-2022 Or Ustilago maydis or corn smut [attachment=5262] Said to be a delicacy in Mexico, I'm not sure I'm going to try it. RE: Huitlacoche - Veggie - 04-09-2022 We'll have less of that language here, if you don't mind. Smut!!! RE: Huitlacoche - Proserpina - 05-09-2022 Ooh, I'd love to try that! Curiosity is getting the better of me so I might give it a go, in a quesadilla but I left it out last night in the small amount of rain, which might have done for it. They say if its black and powdery inside its still edible but not optimum, not sure I fancy a black powdery mushroom. I will report back. RE: Huitlacoche - Veggie - 05-09-2022 I'd try eating most things but corn smut maybe where I'd stop trying. Let P try it first. Good idea, I've been trying to kill him off with my cooking for years .........and failed. RE: Huitlacoche - JJB - 05-09-2022 Well I bit the bullet... or corn smut...., TBH it tasted quite nice but not particularly distinctive, lets face it anything sautéed in butter tastes nice to me. It looks very unappealing, like something cooked in squid ink. Not very truffle like though. |
