  Cross pollination
Posted by: Small chilli - 10-05-2022, 10:17 AM - Replies (7)

I’m hoping to save seeds from some onion shallot zebrune .
Looks like they’re going to flower at the same time as the ornamental alliums.
Will the cross?

Apologies if this is a really dumb question    Blush .

  Growing Different Cucumbers Together
Posted by: PyreneesPlot - 09-05-2022, 08:43 PM - Replies (4)

Probably a little late to be asking this as I planted out the first five this afternoon, but I vaguely recall problems with growing different cucumbers together.
They are all open pollinated, old varieties and are growing outside.
Cheers Smile

Would anyone think it useful to make a library of common wild flower/weed seedlings so if anyone isn't sure what it us we can check against some pictures?

  Haylage

I'm not really sure what Haylage is but I've been given 4 black bags of it - bought in error for soft hay for chinchillas - not really sure what they are either but their loss is my gain. Big Grin

My original thought was chicken bedding but, is there a better use for it?  Mulch, earthing up spuds? It seems to have seed heads so I'm not sure about spreading it around too much.
Any advice welcome. Big Grin

  Atomic grape
Posted by: Proserpina - 05-05-2022, 02:17 PM - No Replies

I have six atomic grape plants. They were all sown in the same compost, at the same time, were potted on at the same time, and have been sat on the same windowsill. Three of the plants are the same height as most of my other tomato varieties and three are rather short. The three tall ones are all a similar height to each other, and the three short ones are also the same as each other.

I really need to get rid of some of my tomato plants, but I'm rather tempted to grow all of these on, just to see what happens!

What are you planning on saving
Posted by: Small chilli - 02-05-2022, 05:37 PM - Replies (15)

What seeds are you planning/ hoping to save this year ?

My plan to save primrose seeds for the second year running isn’t going to happen. Voles are taking them long before they’re ready to collect.

I’m hoping to save autumn king carrots this year. This will be a first for me. I left half a tub in the tunnel over winter and flower spikes are starting to appear.

Also planning on saving honesty , rock roses , Aubrieta, sweet pea & beans ( 1 runner, 1 DFB, 2 CFB)  . Lots can go wrong before that happens.

  Multi spray gun
Posted by: Small chilli - 02-05-2022, 12:02 PM - Replies (11)

Anyone got any recommendations for a multi spray gun / head for the hosepipe.

I’ve had Hose lock before but if fell apart after it’s first winter outside. To expensive to replace regularly.
I currently have a flopro .

which has lasted pretty well apart from the bit of plastic that controls the on off broke fairly quickly. But I’ve continued to use it for a good few years. You can still see where the on off strip of plastic used to be ( shiny bright blue, between the white cracked edges)

It’s now becoming a pain ( literally at times). As all I have to turn on off & control the flow is this little sticky up bit of white plastic.

Now I’m using the hose more often ( more pots to water) it’s becoming quite annoying/ uncomfortable.
No bob can’t fix it, he’s already laughed at me when I asked him  Rolleyes .
Any recommendations would be great. Thank you.
