Hot, hot, hot Sad 40 tomorrow, hotter on Monday and somehow the idea of 28 on Tuesday sounds refreshing! No rain in the two week forecast and three young aubergine plants lost to the heat today.
It's absolutely sweltering here and it's going to get gradually worse until Tuesday evening. I've taken Monday off so I don't have to go in to the office, and homeworking Tuesday. Geez.
OK everyone, as many of us go through this unprecedented heat, tell us what you've been forecast and what you actually get. I know the forecasts change almost hourly but try your best. And don't forget to tell us where you are Smile

Today's Met Office forecast (17 July) for the next few days in Salisbury Wilts is

Today high 27 low 17
Mon high 34 low 22 although another site has us down for 36°
Tues high 33 low 17
Then back down to normal 22/23 ish
well I did the 2 laps and we got about .5mm or rain this morning. So if we need 50mm, that would mean 200 laps. Thor is a hard god I think.

Forecast here:
today: 31/14
Mon: 36/21
Tue: 37/17
Then 19.
Don't do the 200 laps in 37° Mark you'll melt. I tried your rainmaker plan and it didn't work here, maybe it's a different breed of rain god down here.
Best wishes everyone.
We're predicted 38-40 today, which is hot, but only 4 or 5 degrees above what we would expect in July (we're on Alerte Orange). For you guys in the UK (Is it happening in Ireland. too Can?) these are terrifying temperatures. It took us a few years to really acclimatise, so I really appreciate how tough it is going to be. I'm worried about my mum (83 and with COPD) who refuses to believe that she should keep her windows closed because she's always had the idea of a cool breeze. There's a limit how much I can nag ;(

This is the info I sent to her, gathered from a variety of other sources, and obviously not all relevant, in the hope that she'll believe them, even if not me.

Keep shutters, blinds and curtains closed to keep the sun out of the rooms. They will also act as a barrier to the general heat. Shutters outside windows are best of all.
Open all the windows & doors in the morning/evening when it is cooler outside than inside.
Avoid opening the windows during the heat of the day; a breeze may feel refreshing, but it will be heating the house up. To many people not used to hot weather, those living in northern Europe for example, this behaviour feels counterintuitive, but is very important for keeping your living space cooler over a period of time.
Wear loose clothing – ladies take off your bras or at least avoid nylon or padded ones!
Keep a damp flannel in a plastic bag in the fridge for use on the back of the neck and inside wrists.
Keep hydrated: water is best. Drink cool drinks, rather than hot and avoid alcohol.
Eat lots of fruit and choose juicy vegetables and salads.
Visit the library, or another cooled building, but only if you can get there without over exerting yourself.
If you have to walk outside, wear light-coloured loose clothing and remember a wide brimmed hat to keep the sun off your face, and plenty of sunscreen.
Avoid cooking until the day is starting to cool because it will heat up your living space. If you have one, shut your kitchen door to keep the cooking heat in there, and then eat in a different room.
Have a siesta in the afternoon and eat later. There’s a reason why the Spanish eat at ten at night!
Don’t exercise or do physical work during the hottest part of the day. Start earlier in the morning if you can.
Turn off unused electrical appliances and avoid running any during the day when they will add to the heat inside your living space.
Take a cool shower or bath.
