Tortarello - JJB - 27-11-2022 I've been browsing seeds as you do at this time of the year, or if you're Veggie any time of year ![]() Anyone grown Tortarello or it might be called Amenian cucumber? RE: Tortarello - Veggie - 27-11-2022 I think I have! Years ago I was given some Armenian cucumbers (grown in a greenhouse). They had velvety skins, slightly ridged. I tried growing them from the saved seeds - can't remember the outcome. It was during my "Try a funny cucumber era" - Dragon's Egg etc. RE: Tortarello - JJB - 27-11-2022 ^^^ yeah, but what did they taste like?? You obviously didn't bother with them again ![]() RE: Tortarello - JJB - 27-11-2022 I was about to embarass myself ![]() Somewhere it says Armenian cucumbers need a long hot summer (that puts me off for a start) then it said for germination they need in excess of 50 degrees WHAT!! thought I, hot hot hot, then after a few seconds I figured I was looking at an American site, they talk in Fahrenheit, panic over, but feeling rather silly ![]() RE: Tortarello - Veggie - 27-11-2022 (27-11-2022, 12:15 PM)JJB Wrote: ^^^ yeah, but what did they taste like?? You obviously didn't bother with them againAll cucumbers taste much the same (generally). If you leave some too long, they taste sweeter, like a melon - like the Carosello I grew this year. I think Tortarello was like that. RE: Tortarello - JJB - 27-11-2022 Thank you V, I might just stick to Beth Alpha and a new one Delistar, whatever I do, I'll have more than enough cucs, I'm sure. RE: Tortarello - Small chilli - 27-11-2022 It took me ages to work out why you two were calling tomatillos, cucumbers! Then I read the title again ![]() ![]() RE: Tortarello - Vinny - 27-11-2022 (27-11-2022, 12:25 PM)JJB Wrote: I was about to embarass myselfI still use Fahrenheit all the time. Can't visualise temperature in celsius/centigrade! ![]() ![]() RE: Tortarello - Veggie - 27-11-2022 Same here, Vinny! My markers are 16C = 61F and 28C = 82F. Any other C numbers are meaningless. ![]() Old school and proud! RE: Tortarello - JJB - 27-11-2022 I work in centigrade ok but grams need to be converted to ounces, I can visualise metres but centimetres get approximated into feet and inches. Does that mean I'm multilingual? ![]() |
