  Willow
Posted by: Scarlet - 10-12-2021, 07:51 AM - Replies (10)

Every year at this time I wish I'd planted some willo for coppicing. I planted a couple of whips in my hedge but I would like a little willow area? For make wreaths etc and encouraging wildlife.

Anyone know which ones to get? Good for wreaths? Would like some colours?

Anyone grow any?

  Water Tanks
Posted by: Scarlet - 10-12-2021, 07:23 AM - Replies (10)

I've been offered a couple of water tanks - the ones in frames? I just have to get them here!! Anyone got any? A couple of questions...

Weight??? How heavy are these? I need to get transport!

Would I need to clean them out? Not sure what it had in it?? If so, how.

I don't think I would bother to hide it? But I know people dig them into the ground?

How do you access the water? Put a tap on it or just pump out?

I'm quite excited about these - though waiting back on my question regarding what it stored.

  My Christmas decorations walk through...

As the title states I have recorded a little walkthrough of my Christmas decorations which I have just put up for this year. These were all lights I had stored in the attic but I have laid them out in a different way this year. I was so impressed I made a video of it.  Cool

  Month names (nutty)
Posted by: Veggie - 09-12-2021, 06:21 PM - Replies (8)

You'll have seen how the names of some months are tweaked to turn into a challenge/aim like Veganuary/January to turn vegan, No Mow May to put away your lawnmower and Movember to grow a moustache for charity.
There are others but they elude me at present!
My question is - can you think of names/aims for each month of the year, just as some of us (well, Vinny and I) have names for days of the week.
I'd like to be able to say, its Weednesday, No Mow May. Big Grin

  Amaranth

As part of a seed collection I've bought for next year (from Kokopelli) there are six different varieties of amaranth. I have a variety self-seeding around the garden and leave it for the birds, but it would appear I should be eating it too!

As it is new to me as a vegetable, I wondered if anyone has had any experience of growing and eating it?

  2022 Tomato Grow List
Posted by: toomanytommytoes - 08-12-2021, 01:25 AM - Replies (23)

Anyone else already planned their tomato grow list for next year, or am I just a bit sad?  Big Grin

Firstly, gonna try Latah and Oregon Spring for some early tomatoes.

Then for the main season...

Greenhouse:

Bear Creek - black beefsteak
Daniel Burson - black beefsteak, giving it a second chance as it died early from black mould this year
Girl Girl's Weird Thing - bicolour beefsteak, similar look to Pink Berkeley Tie Dye, a mutant/accidental cross of Green Zebra
Heshpole - Heart Shaped Potato Leaf, potato leaf pink oxheart
Mat-Su Express - my favourite of 2021 with excellent production, earliness and taste
Rosedale - black/pink beefsteak
Rebel Yell - pink beefsteak
Sgt. Pepper's - oxheart tomato with anthocyanin 'blue' shoulders

Outdoors:

Bush cherries - Golden Nugget, Maskotka, Koralik, Lizzano F1 (blight resistant)
Vine - Nagina/Crimson Plum F1 (blight resistant plum)

Even though every year I say I won't grow vines outdoors anymore, I can't resist temptation and want to save seed to distribute so will have to find some space for Primabella, Sweet Aperitif, Reinhard's Purple Sugar, Matt's Hornet and Goldkrone.  Rolleyes

  Onion sets - Year 2
Posted by: Veggie - 07-12-2021, 08:02 PM - Replies (12)

I was late planting onion sets this year and they didn't grow much. When I pulled the usable onions I missed a lot. They were so small they'd disappeared. Now they're shooting!
My plan is to leave them until next year and see what happens. Logically, I would expect them to flower/seed which got me thinking - could I create a permanent onion bed in the same way as I'm trying to do with leeks and spring onions.
Does an onion split into two with side bulbs or does it die after flowering?
What if you remove the flowers - would it bulk up?

All this and more I need to know. Can anyone help please? Big Grin
