Daffodils

I know I skip from one thing to another but this
year the daffs were fab....I don't really have much of a spring garden. I love tulips but over the years have planted hundreds and they rarely return. Daffs are different.

I have been reading up - there are lots of heritage varieties out there Smile

Do you just grab a bag from the supermarket or order in some bulbs with a little history?

I am looking them all up - new project.

  Water harvesting/storage
Posted by: Jimny14 - 03-05-2021, 01:12 PM - Replies (9)

This bank holiday weather and the disappearance of spring here has got me thinking about water storage. I have a 200litre water butt collecting from the garage and am considering adding more butts to that setup. I am also thinking about adding gutters and a butt to the shed near the veg patch.
From your experiences how much storage capacity do you need for your gardens, do you wish you had more? Thanks.

  How ruthless are you?

I've often lamented about the number of baby plants I have and the prime reason for the problem is that I can't bear to cull the stragglers.  I work on the principle that even the weedy ones deserve a chance and some investment.  That said, I'm a devil for leaving plants for too long in small pots or forgetting them until such time they're no use at all so some get culled by neglect.
So how ruthless are you with the runts and stragglers?

  Canadian Wonder

Does anyone else grow Canadian Wonder. I opened a packet of Kings seeds (the bundle at the top of the picture) and thought they don't look right (quite small and different shades of red/brown) so I checked against my own saved seeds (bottom bundle) and as I grow these for the beans I'll be sowing mine and chucking the kings.

  Nepeta/catmint

Hi all,

I have a couple small nepeta plants grown from seed (a white flowered variety). Can I put them straight in the ground, or should I restrict it's growth like you would with mint?

Thanks!

  Tomato Craigella
Posted by: JJB - 02-05-2021, 05:36 PM - Replies (11)

I sowed 4 seeds of Craigella, 3 of which germinated, I think either that or I've lost the 4th.  Two were potato leaved the other normal leaved.  Looking on the web it says nothing about Craigella being potato leaved so I'm wondering what I have growing.  Anyone else growing these?

I must admit I didn't even know this was a thing until today which apparently it is!!

Obviously, you are not getting me in the buff in the garden, it's not warm enough and there are too many birds looking for worms around. Wink

How many of you have heard of it or maybe even tried it? Big Grin

No details or photos though Tongue

  Scarlet’s CFB

Scarlet I have a couple of questions?  Big Grin

I’ve just sown your lovely mix of CFBs.
I know one is Tresnejavec = best for shelling & Meuch = fresh or shelling
Do you have any idea what the black seeds might be?
The other seeds you narrowed down to cosse violette or Kew blue. How do I tell which one I’ve got when they start growing? Any difference in leaf, flower or pod colour?

Thank you  Smile
