Winter Ornamental Pots & Baskets
Posted by: PyreneesPlot - 20-10-2021, 07:59 PM - Replies (6)

Beyond a few pots of daffs I've never bothered with pots or baskets for winter interest, but did think it would be nice to put something in the half basket that fits on the wall between the two garage doors now the extension is nearly finished and the area is a bit tidier!
But what?
Anybody else have winter baskets they'd care to share ?

I don't know whether anyone has seen this You Tube video before? Big Grin

Well I had seen it a good while ago and thought it funny. Whilst in the Farplace charity shop I came across the book for 10p in unread condition and just had to have it! Cool

The video still creases me up!

  Carrot bed

I'm considering making a raised bed with some surplus wood from an old pergola to grow some root veg in. Has anyone  done this? I'm on stony clay so will require some different soil to fill the bed with. Has anyone got any recommendations as to what to fill the bed with as cheaply as possible?

What is the best length for a shaft
Posted by: Spec - 15-10-2021, 08:35 AM - Replies (6)

Have just been reading through mcdood's thread about oscillating hoe's and noticed some comments regarding the length of shafts, as I am doing a lot of shovel work just now, one of the problems I have is the shaft of the shovel being too short, I have to use a shovel which I bought in lidls it has a long shaft but no handle which means you don't get the same power when digging in to lift some soil I have a couple of garden spades and of those the most comfortable one for working with is a cheap one bought again from lidles, as it has a longer shaft, I think it was manufactured in the Continent and it is so much better for working with, when I purchased the other spade which came from an ironmongers, it was the longest shaft I could find at the time, but even on the rare occasion when you come across replacement shafts they are still on the short side, so why the difference between here and the Continent

  Garlic 2021-22

So today I planted my garlic from saved bulbs from last year (can't remember the original variety I've been self saving garlic bulbs for several years now).
For reasons of space and other things still being in other growing spaces I've planted mine in a selection of pots this year.

Who else has already planted garlic and who's planning on doing so?

  What a good idea

Spotted this on the BBC news site. Mainly based in Holland methinks but judging by my dog walks, little forests seem to be cropping up all over the place. Well done to ever instigated it. Cool
