Hibachi Grill
Posted by: Can the Man - 26-10-2021, 11:21 PM - Replies (3)

I am a big fan of everything MasterChef, especially MasterChef Australia. On the various series competitors cook on an Hibachi Grill, it burns very hot so cooks quick and fast but it cooks indoors with special white charcoal which smoke is non carcinogenic in actual fact it’s not supposed to give off very much smoke unless you burn something.
Great news my kids bought me one for my recent birthday but I have not been able to get this white charcoal anywhere locally, it’s referred to as Binchotan, I have found it on Amazon but mainly as charcoal for water filtration.
Just wondering if any of you foodies has any experience with cooking on one of these ?.

  Root Parsley
Posted by: Veggie - 26-10-2021, 06:09 PM - Replies (7)

Root Parsley is not your normal parsley but has edible, parsnip-like roots  as well as edible leaves.
Real Seeds has seeds and information https://www.realseeds.co.uk/parsnips.html
I have old seeds for Atika, Hermes and Kinga/Hamburg Parsley - goodness knows how that happened - must have been freebies Wink

Has anyone ever grown it? if so, what's your verdict?

Anyone got one of these?

I fancy getting one to replace my 11" HP Chromebook which is on the blink. Seems rather cheap and I just wonder why?

  Cunning plan....NOT!
Posted by: Vinny - 24-10-2021, 06:11 PM - Replies (13)

My cunning plan was to fit a fan close to my woodburner to hopefully send some heat to a room behind (dining room to living room)

It may have backfired as the woodburner room is toasty but the living room with fan running for  two hours has only raised its temperature by 1/2 a degree! Sick The cost of running the fan for two hours would probably negate any advantage achieved as I was trying to do without lighting the gas fire in that room. Angry

Ah well, there is another half day wasted punching hole through wall and fitting fan. There is dust all over and I will have to spend tomorrow cleaning the mess up. These things are sent to try us! Rolleyes Smile

  Siberian / Welsh Onions
Posted by: Broadway - 23-10-2021, 04:04 PM - Replies (5)

Hi Folks

I purchased a clump of siberian (also known as welsh?) onions earlier in the year and just left them to it for this year.

That said should I be dividing and replanting them?

TIA

  I don’t like you

We all have plants we don’t like for various reasons. Like thuggish behaviour (Michaelmas daisy, montbretia ), unpleasant scents (feverfew, herb Robert ), vicious thorns (I still grow them, I just swear a lot  Big Grin )
Does anyone have a dislike for any plants without a reasonable explanation or is it just me ?  Blush .

Cyclamen. I just don’t like cyclamen  Undecided . I have no idea why .

  Winter Ornamental Pots & Baskets
Posted by: PyreneesPlot - 20-10-2021, 07:59 PM - Replies (6)

Beyond a few pots of daffs I've never bothered with pots or baskets for winter interest, but did think it would be nice to put something in the half basket that fits on the wall between the two garage doors now the extension is nearly finished and the area is a bit tidier!
But what?
Anybody else have winter baskets they'd care to share ?

I don't know whether anyone has seen this You Tube video before? Big Grin

Well I had seen it a good while ago and thought it funny. Whilst in the Farplace charity shop I came across the book for 10p in unread condition and just had to have it! Cool

The video still creases me up!

  Carrot bed

I'm considering making a raised bed with some surplus wood from an old pergola to grow some root veg in. Has anyone  done this? I'm on stony clay so will require some different soil to fill the bed with. Has anyone got any recommendations as to what to fill the bed with as cheaply as possible?
