We used to get cuckoos regularly but haven't heard one now for a good few years. Swallows arrived a couple of weeks ago and there are several flying in and out of the old coal shed.

Just now coming back from a walk we saw a bird of prey, probably a sparrowhawk, just swoop into the garden down the drive.
Heard the first golden oriole of the year - I'm sure with climate change their beautiful liquid call will ring out over more and more UK woodlands.
Can hear woody woodpecker.
Common male Redstart, beautiful! We often have Black Redstarts but this is the first time I’ve seen this one.
We have 2 different (I think) male greater spotted woodpeckers visiting the birdtable, one who announces himself arriving and departing with a 'chack' and one who doesn't. The sparrows don't quite know what to make of them. The table is for the small birds and has a 1½" plastic mesh to keep black birds and pigeons out, you know the plastic stuff used for climbing plants, woody thinks nothing of squeezing through this.
Three Buzzards over the garden the other day.
I’ve finally seen Swallows!
Saw my first cabbage white today.

For the last week or so, there have been black flies with long dangly legs. They only seem to fly for a couple of weeks in early May. They don't look very nice but seem harmless enough.
