B. Sourdough bread and plum jam
L. Lentil soup and a tangerine
D. Fish & chips from the chip shop. I feel so full - the dogs enjoyed it too.

Out for a Syrian meal this evening. Fingers crossed for no rain. There’s going to be about 40 of us sat outside.

For brunch at 11.15. Hot dogs and onions ad two braising steaks with goats cheese on them.I also had a handful of mussels which needed to be eaten so they were squeezed onto the corner of the plate. Smile

We had a holiday in Syria and Jordan one year. Before I went to a new country I used to learn a few words like "No meat " or "without meat" which ever was easier to learn. I'd swatted up on Syrian food and, like many poorer countries, the locals eat a lot of pulses and vegetables - meat being for high days and holidays - so I thought  eating would be easy for me. On our first night in Damascus, I practised my "no meat" words and the waiter seemed to understand and he brought us bowls of some sort of stew. I knew from the smell it had lamb in it but the waiter said, very proudly, that there was no meat in my bowl - they had taken the meat out for me! Things improved after that.

It was lovely and incredibly filling. This is the 3rd year we’ve been to the Syrian night. It’s a self service thing there are big bowls of Rice , lamb (guessing minced as it was cooked in a big tray and portioned in to squares), hummus, a very thin bread bit like tortilla, a triangle pastry thing with blue cheese inside . And 2 other things. One was a veg thing all very finely chopped, the other thing was yoghurt, something crispy and other things (my favourite element of the meal) They had label next to all the dishes. Not a lot of use to a dyslexic    Wink . And pudding was a little square of flaky pastry & nuts and soaked in something sweet sticky slightly greasy and incredibly moorish. No idea what that’s called either.

I was trying to find a n online menu but I came across this
https://www.mullandionafood.co.uk/2021/0...n-suppers/

We are actually in the photo of all the people sat on the long beach outside. And the place with the oak beams is the old post office at the end of our road. This is from our 1st Syrian night. The menu has reduced since then, but it’s still incredibly good. They’ve stopped using the fancy individual sectioned plates as well.

I can pick you out in the photo, not sure about Bob, did the rain hold of for you this year?

Sounds gorgeous, SC - my kind of meal. Big Grin The dessert would have been some sort of baklava with filo pastry. I tried making them once with bought filo pastry but it was nothing like the real thing. I used to eat far too many of them in Greece! https://www.dishesorigins.com/baklava/
