I have cabbage and cauliflower planted at present I also had some seaweed spare so I spread it around the roots and stems of the plants, this was done a week ago and sofar there has been no slug or snail damage to the plants, just wondering if anyone knows if it will also keep the cabbage root fly at bay?

No real idea Spec, but if the fly can't lay it's eggs in the soil, I guess yes

He's the same age as you - and that's OLD.

Age is just a frame of mind
Sadly the frame is a bit shaky,
As for the mind, they say life is a learning curve, so with all the things I need to learn, I think I am just starting out on the curve, so I must be young

Mine are (were) netted. It doesn't keep rats out. whether a garlic spray would, not sue as frequent rain would keep washing it off I should think. They went for the brassicas last year as well.

I have mine in the raised beds kept the hoods down when they were young to prevent pigeons, now they have developed I have the hoods open, but spotted some white butterfly about today so will probably close the hoods again. Kale is lovely young and tender. Have planted some cavolo nero outside under nets.
Will take photos tomorrow and post onto this post.
Coffee keeps me busy until it’s acceptable to drink whiskey.

Mark have you tried making collars, using large plastic milk cartons or lemonade bottles then spray them with garlic spray to mask the brassica smell, don't know if it would work but worth a try
