well I pulled up a leek and a few carrots. I've never known the ground to be so wet. Where I pulled up the carrots, in the polytunnel and some outside., each hole left by the carrots filled with water straight away.

Some sprouts, broccoli and carrots - to go in a curry with pumpkin and beans.

Today I needed to clear the raised bed nearest the conservatory, since it will only get trampled on in the next few days. Got a very modest harvest of 140g Paris Market carrots, two cavalo nero tops, a dozen or so very spindly spring onions, and a big bunch of flat leaf parsley (the only thing I've had a glut of, apart from oregano - they both grow like weeds in this soil!).

The spring onions were hard to get out of the ground without breaking them - I soon discovered they had very vigorous root systems despite the feeble top growth. I wonder if they struggled to find water in the summer and never really recovered?
How much veg and wildlife can I pack into a 6m x 8m garden in suburban Cambridge? Let’s find out!  Smile

Purple sprouting broccoli - not very early, but very late as this variety is called Summer Sprouting and was planted last spring! I may have got my timings wrong, but on the other hand it is early enough to beat the aphids so a mistake I may repeat.
Has Anyone Seen the Plot?
