Flowers for an end of June wedding
Posted by: Farendwoman - 18-03-2021, 04:02 PM - Replies (7)

Only daughter is hoping that her wedding on June 26th won’t be cancelled, and wanting good old Mum to provide :-
. bouquets for herself and three bridesmaids,
buttonholes for six chaps,
posies for the tables
and larger displays for church and venue.
I must have had a bottle of wine or two before saying “OK”.
Colour theme is pink/mauve/white.
I should be ok for table posies because I got my sweet peas planted out yesterday(protected by old double glazing panels).
Going to team those with thlaspi green bells which have also been planted out this morning.
Hoping to have plenty of pink and white hydrangeas - will those be in full flow by end of June?
Any other suggestions gratefully received!

Too late to try again ?????
Posted by: Farendwoman - 18-03-2021, 03:52 PM - Replies (1)

My chillies from the seed circle germinated pretty well - from a mid January sowing. (Thank you all)
However many of them have now “keeled over”.
Too much water? Too cold? Too much bright sunshine through spare room window?
I don’t know.
Anyway - is it too late to try again?

  Quaking Grass
Posted by: Farendwoman - 18-03-2021, 03:48 PM - Replies (3)

Checked on my seedlings
The quaking grass from seed circle has germinated fantastically.
Thank you VC.
My only daughter is getting married at the end of June (fingers crossed) and I have “volunteered” or been press ganged into doing the flowers. Eeeeek!
The quaking grass will turn any old bunch into something pretty special (according to Sarah Raven).
Hope so.
Going to start anew topic so that I can get loads of advice from you all on what I should be doing.

Just curious if you use pet names with your partners....and you thought I meant dogs and cats (or Ferrets in the case of SC)

My wife calls me Pud.... cant think why Wink
In return I call her Twinkle...because she has never been the brightest Smile

If you had a second chance?

Following on from the Ology thread, if you had your time over, what would you do instead?

Having had three careers (archaeologist, chef and bookshop manager, then early retiree) I know I lack stickability, but looking back I'm happy with my choices and always chose a path that lead to daily satisfaction rather than material wealth, although we're paying the price for that now!

I wonder how many of us made the right choice at 16, 18, 21 or even 50?

What age do you think you are
Posted by: Spec - 15-03-2021, 01:02 AM - Replies (25)

I have just watched a recording about how to age well, there were several interviews with some of societies seniors and showing what they do to keep feeling young, so made me wonder others on here do to keep themselves feeling young.
Mostly I  mess about in the garden, though I do go for a walk for about a mile every day, up to the start of the pandemic I run a garden club, organising monthly meetings, I also help maintain the church, which being an old building takes a lot work, but I suppose it all contributes to keeping me active, so again what do you do to keep yourself young

  Compost differences

Last year I bought some expensive compost that had been recommended by the likes of Charles Dowding, but which (last year at least) turned out to be less than ideal quality - Charles said as much on a recent video, and said he had been in touch with the manufacturers about the drop in quality. This was Moorland Gold, which is made from reclaimed peat fragments taken from reservoirs - it was a lovely fine texture that seemed ideal for propagation, and who could resist environmentally friendly peat?

However everything I sowed in it last summer failed, and just to prove a point, when I tried it again this year (because I'd run low on seed compost) the results were less than impressive:

These are different seeds from different suppliers (beetroot, calendula - some home-saved - and alyssum), but only about half of all the modules had any germination Sad

Contrast this with the broad beans I sowed in Dalefoot Seed Compost:

Around 90-95% germination rate. I rest my case!

  Do you have an ology?
Posted by: Veggie - 14-03-2021, 07:55 PM - Replies (34)

There are so many knowledgeable people on here that I'm feeling a bit left out.Wink
Then I remembered the BT ad from many years ago -    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NK5-2fPyCjA

So I'd like to warn people that I'm likely to make an ology comment whenever I feel its warranted.Wink. No offence intended - maybe a tinge of jealousy though. Rolleyes .

So, my question is - do you have an Ology that you'd care to tell us about?  Cool

Don't be shy! Remember, this is the Nutty thread where we try not to be too serious.. Big Grin
