BBCWales made a reality TV series called The Coal House, set in the 1920s. Worth a watch if you want to see what life was like when Spec was young.

I just watched the first episode Veggie, I love these sort of programs.

I enjoyed the Victorian and Edwardian ones that were on early 2000’s? with Ruth Goodman and her merry men?

Have you see Tales from the Green Valley? Same people but set in Stuart times. Its on You tube https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL...KF9SOK-IIt

I've been to "The Valley" (we were sworn to secrecy about its location) and shown round by Stuart Peachey (one of the team). I even tried on his coat that he wears on the programme!! He made it himself. Its also the first place I met Medlars in the flesh, so to speak. Wink

Yesterday was a good day. It stopped raining when 2 of my children arrived with their partners and a grandchild. We went for a walk and were able to picnic by the Tilstone locks on the canal. we had, all homemade, tomato and squash soup, cheese and onion pie and mince pies and flapjacks. The canal path was quite muddy so we kept to the lanes which were pretty quiet. The rain held off while we were out. There was only one minor mishap when the grandson slipped over in the only muddy lane we went along. He had several layer of clothes on so only needed to peel off the outer one.

It was my 70th birthday today so I have now entered my 8th Decade and we had a zoom meeting with most of my family present. It has hardly stopped raining all day and there are puddles everywhere. Picked some broccoli sprouts, carrots and a cabbage. Made a thai curry for tea but didn't use the cabbage.

Not sure that is the case in Scotland, its unusual to live so long.

Also, them that do may be in trouble. I remember a friend of mine coming back from a funeral near Thurso. The person who died had been in their eighties. He said that the preacher in his sermon had intimated that they must have made a pack with the Devil to exceed their allotted time of 3 score year plus 10.
