C
Over boiled cabbage, I dislike it. It seems the overwhelming smell of care homes and hospitals at meal times, no happy memories there.
One I do like is carrots, freshly pulled from the soil. I think carrot flies are on the same wavelength here

C is for Chlorine - the overwhelming smell in public swimming baths. Brings back the dread of going to Guildford Crescent baths in junior school. Changing in cubicles with tiny doors that were ineffective at giving privacy when you were little to start with. The water was always cold and shiver inducing. The instructor was a bully. Made us stand on the side of the pool to "dive" in and those who were scared to, were pushed.
I wore glasses and was as blind as a bat without them but they wouldn't let you wear them in the pool so, once I was in the water I didn't recognise anybody. The other kids would swim away leaving me floundering alone in the shallow end as I was scared to take my feet off the bottom unless I could hang onto the side of the pool.
Absolutely hated going to the baths and Chlorine brings it all back.................and I still can't swim very well!!

The smell of courgette & chilli plants. I really like them . No real nostalgia attached to them. But if I smell them it makes me happy.
The smell of coffee on the other hand makes me Nauseous. Brings back memories of being made to drink it every morning before school. It probably lead to my coke addiction ( the drink not the other stuff )

Cod liver oil, though it was really the taste more than the smell. Mum went through a stage of plying us with a large teaspoonful each morning. Quite often, she would overfill the spoon and if as also often one was reticent at opening one's mouth, some would spill down one's front and the smell would be with me for the rest of the day.

My Mum was still taking cod liver oil capsules daily in her nineties. Not sure how much good they did her though!

Daphne has intensely fragrant blooms though!

Of course daffs have a smell! Are you nose-blind?
