Postage stamps going up in April

I have noticed that some of the new barcoded stamps are also arriving unfranked. End of one era and the beginning of another.

Ah but do the barcoded stamps get recorded on a computer so are voided?

Don't know but somebody I know (Ok it was me) has reused one.

I thought the barcodes were going to play music - like Happy Birthday or Merry ...........mas.

Yep I read that you could send music  or something encoded within the barcode but heaven only knows how.

............how or why!! Gimmick.
I wonder what tune would be appropriate on a seed swap envelope?

It would have to be, Return to sender by Elvis . Or a good song   that’s not related to letters at all

Royal Mail now apparently uses an UV franking system that can detect re-used stamps.

Thanks Moth, even though its not good news!

That article was from 2017 so not about the new stamps. I looked at a book of 4 we have and the barcodes on each stamp is different so I expect they can tell from that if a stamp is being reused.

If that was the system in 2017, it wasn't very good.
