Blunderbuss time!  Or perhaps a Little Nipper.  There are several deployed under strawberry nets away from birdie beaks.  I've yet to figure out how to prevent birds being hurt by the trap in Peg's patch, perhaps a temporary net over Peg and trap. Revenge will be sweet.  I think Peg has a second pregnancy, I'll check later.  I'll never even get to enter to competition at this rate!

Don’t worry JJB, river is childless still. Doing a good impression of a triffid but no offspring to be seen. I share your fear of birds being trapped accidentally. I don’t use traps outside anymore because of failed attempts to only trap mice/ voles. I use very fine mesh to protect the plants/ babies from little furry, long tailed ****s .

Maybe, because the baby was yellow it means it wasn't fertilised and would never have grown to prize winning size?
Anyway, you're both still way ahead of mine have only just germinated.

You may be right Veggie, I was mistaken in thinking son of Peg was solid (I had only poked it with a stick) it was indeed squidgy so Peg probably did the right thing in aborting it. All is forgiven meeces (maybe).

DJ Have you named your pumpkin?
BTW Peg is pregnant again but I'll not be to excited until she's through the first trimester. I'm making sure she drinks plenty in the hot weather. She has a companion to confide her worries to, if necessary, a fine friend called Baked Potato but she seems to prefer mixing with the sweetcorn.
