We had those milk bottles but no biscuits for us.
I remember the ink monitor spilling ink over my cardigan the teacher used the leftover milk to soak it in.

Edit Reason: Custard not sauce
)
Love all these memories of school days.
Anybody else have a bucket of sand in the reception classroom for smothering the sick when some poor child heaved up the warm milk??
It would sit there all morning till the school caretaker dealt with it while we all filed into the school hall to eat our choc pudding and pink custard.

I thought the sand bucket was to put out fires - not that we had any of those.
Going back to the ink, I seem to remember that if you put lemon juice in the ink you made "invisible ink" and teacher couldn't read what you'd written.

I thought the trick was to write notes to your pals using lemon juice as ink then they could read it if they warmed the paper up. A bit hazardous if using an open fire for a heat source. Maybe that was why there were sand buckets. PS can't remember any sand buckets at school.

That sounds about right, write. I must try it when I next have a lemon.

Oooh Bren.
I think you may be right.
I probably didn’t know what sawdust was when I was four, and just assumed it was sand.
