Tortarello

I've been browsing seeds as you do at this time of the year, or if you're Veggie any time of year

Anyone grown Tortarello or it might be called Amenian cucumber?

I think I have! Years ago I was given some Armenian cucumbers (grown in a greenhouse). They had velvety skins, slightly ridged. I tried growing them from the saved seeds - can't remember the outcome. It was during my "Try a funny cucumber era" - Dragon's Egg etc.

Somewhere it says Armenian cucumbers need a long hot summer (that puts me off for a start) then it said for germination they need in excess of 50 degrees WHAT!! thought I, hot hot hot, then after a few seconds I figured I was looking at an American site, they talk in Fahrenheit, panic over, but feeling rather silly

All cucumbers taste much the same (generally). If you leave some too long, they taste sweeter, like a melon - like the Carosello I grew this year.  I think Tortarello was like that.

Thank you V, I might just stick to Beth Alpha and a new one Delistar, whatever I do, I'll have more than enough cucs, I'm sure.

I still use Fahrenheit all the time. Can't visualise temperature in celsius/centigrade! On the BBC weather siteI have it set up fo show Fahrenheit also. Can't get away with this new money.

Same here, Vinny! My markers are 16C = 61F and 28C = 82F. Any other C numbers are meaningless.

I work in centigrade ok but grams need to be converted to ounces, I can visualise metres but centimetres get approximated into feet and inches. Does that mean I'm multilingual? as for weighing myself in kilos, that means nothing give me stones and pounds for the shock to mean anything.
