I’m afraid I was too early with mine - they popped up and then keeled over.
i shall sow some more tomorrow, Scarlet.

So the Gypsophila has germinated already - that went upto the greenhouse this morning.

I didn't do any gardening today - very cold wind. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.

Blimey- that was quick on the gyp.
was it from Chiltern’s seeds?
ive been fancying trying that for several years but never got round to it .

I was surprised too - it was from Chilterns- the pink one. Never tried it before. I'm trying lots of new stuff and it's all very exciting

Do you remember you sent me a tree peony? I still have that in a large pot...considering planting it out in the garden this year but don't want to loose it!

Do you remember you sent me a tree peony? I still have that in a large pot...considering planting it out in the garden this year but don't want to loose it!

You are sowing a fabulous assortment of flowers - your garden is going to look absolutely beautiful. I shall resow my violet linaria today and also some orange calendula. I did both of these too soon, and they got spindly and then bit the dust. 
Have you grown china asters before? Never considered them for some reason - don’t know why. Celosia were lovely for me last year and I’ve saved seed for this year.
Yes I remember the peony, hope it transplants ok.

Ladies, FEW and Scarlet, do these flower seeds need continued bottom heat after germination and pricking out at this time of year?

My asters were a bit slow last year, but I didn't cosset them very much. The blooms are beautiful.

Everything I've sown so far are "hardy annuals". I do have a heat mat in the greenhouse - so somethings are on that but mostly I just cover over with lids if it's forecast very cold. I take out of the prop the minute I see germination.

I’m in the same camp as Scarlet. Mine get bottom heat till they germinate, then are whipped out once they show and kept on the windowsill with a cover on. Tough stuff like antirrhinums, calendula, cornflowers go straight to a cold greenhouse as soon as they have germinated. My big problem with sowing early is that the windowsill ones can get stretched and spindly. If I’ve got a good lot of saved seed,I still think it’s worth a try with sowing early though. I can never wait to get started with it!
