First one has velvety leaves is Lychnis- I love it. It can have a magenta or a white flower. It's a short lived perennial and comes easily from seed.
Second one is sedum.
# If she has dug up plants to keep from the elder patch -
Keep in pots for a while to check there isn't any tiny piece of ground elder lurking in the pot. Good luck.

Another plant/shrub. She said there are 2 that seemed dead but have now acquired some leaves.
