Having layed the hedge and removed some unwanted plants we have a small patch of open ground that I want to plant something on. The area may not be available very long (a year or three) due to renovation plans. The hedge to the left is on the west(picture taken approx 10.30am). Our soil is slightly acid clay. I was thinking wild flowers but wonder if our soil may be a little too nutrient rich for some? Any thoughts on what to plant would be great thanks.

I would go with scattering a mixed pack of wild flower seeds specifically for clay soil, and risk it being too rich.

^^^ yes cosmos is fab!
I'm on clay. I find most annuals do really well. I'd plant what you want.
Cornflowers, ammi, scabious, clary sage, poppies all self seed

Here's a couple of pictures of the patch, annual mixed seeds planted, watered over dry spell in April, this is what we have now. Feel free to play eye spy with what was in the mix.

Borage, poppies, corn cockle.
I don’t know the name of the yellow daisy. Is the other yellow flower a type of marigold?
