Quick cover for short ish term - Jimny14 - 28-02-2021 Having layed the hedge and removed some unwanted plants we have a small patch of open ground that I want to plant something on. The area may not be available very long (a year or three) due to renovation plans. The hedge to the left is on the west(picture taken approx 10.30am). Our soil is slightly acid clay. I was thinking wild flowers but wonder if our soil may be a little too nutrient rich for some? Any thoughts on what to plant would be great thanks. [attachment=2290] RE: Quick cover for short ish term - PyreneesPlot - 28-02-2021 I would go with scattering a mixed pack of wild flower seeds specifically for clay soil, and risk it being too rich. RE: Quick cover for short ish term - Spec - 28-02-2021 Different colour varieties of pot marigold and nasturtium RE: Quick cover for short ish term - PyreneesPlot - 28-02-2021 Cosmos loves clay and will self seed itself next year. RE: Quick cover for short ish term - Scarlet - 28-02-2021 ^^^ yes cosmos is fab! I'm on clay. I find most annuals do really well. I'd plant what you want. Cornflowers, ammi, scabious, clary sage, poppies all self seed RE: Quick cover for short ish term - Jimny14 - 28-02-2021 Thanks all. Annual seed mix purchased. RE: Quick cover for short ish term - Jimny14 - 30-06-2021 Here's a couple of pictures of the patch, annual mixed seeds planted, watered over dry spell in April, this is what we have now. Feel free to play eye spy with what was in the mix. [attachment=3305] [attachment=3306] RE: Quick cover for short ish term - Small chilli - 30-06-2021 Borage, poppies, corn cockle. I don’t know the name of the yellow daisy. Is the other yellow flower a type of marigold? RE: Quick cover for short ish term - Bren - 30-06-2021 It does look pretty Jimny RE: Quick cover for short ish term - Jimny14 - 30-06-2021 [attachment=3321] Just another view to see a few other plants if anyone is interested. |
