I may have mentioned OH is in the process of reading Railway Magazines from 1950's and earlier. The language used is hugely different, far more so than I would have expected.

Another word he came across was PEREGRINATION.

I have to confess I can never remember it - I suppose because I never have occasion to use it - so I have it written down on my desk. I do that with all new words I like until I remember them.
