It was a lovely sunny, windless morning so I thought I would have a session at the allotment. Fishing season starts Sunday and my eldest son and grandson asked me if I could dig a few worms for them? I was reticent as I know the good that worms do to the soil but I mamnaged to dig enough for both of them on a days fishing. (still can't convince them to fly fish with me)
I dug over a bed and raked it level and planted three rows of onion sets (approx 50 sets methinks?) I then dug up some parsnips and pulled up some brassica plants which had seeded from the same bed. There appeared to be some Californian poppy seedslings in the bed dso I dug them out and transplanted them into what will be my flower beds. (I hope they were what I thought they were or I have just translanted weeds!)
I then dug over that bed in which I intend sowing parsnips after it has dried out a bit. This could be tomorrow if the weather is similar to today.
I cut a big clump of comfrey for my new allotment neighbour to break up into many pieces. She had what she thought was a comfrey plant but it looked like a foxglove seedling to me? so I made her day as she was going to have to buy some!
I dug over another small bed, but I haven't decided what I will grow in it yet?
I have a couple of PSB plants which I should have harvested but I may harvest them tomorrow and have them with my Sunday roast beef!
After adding quite a few weeds to my tumbler composter that I had scrounged, i turned it upside down before I left, hopefully mixing the 'browns' with the 'greens'?
