Canny little session at the plot today. Even thoug the shaded areas were still frosted and the unshaded areas were 'greasy' I managed to stay on my paths so as not to compact the soil.
I pulled up all the dead flower detrtus on the three flower beds and added them to my scrounged tumle composter. As they were mainly brown waste I had to stomp it down with the hoe.
I shook each dead plant on the beds to dislodge any seeds before composting remains.
Once I had done that I hoed the paths between last years flower beds. Quite a few of the flower seedlings were chopped off unfortunately, but hopefully those left on the beds will thrive? A lot of the path weeds were AMG (Annul Meadow Grass) which being shallow rooted was reasonably easy to hoe off. Having said that the ground was sticky which kept clogging up the hoe so even though I had shorts on, I had to keep taking top layers off as I was sweating I did stop short of taking the tee shirt off though!
The green matter was a welcome addition to balance the composts brown matter added earlier.
