Back at plot today mainly to pick some blackcurrants for jam (Thanks for reminding me JJB)
I took a large bowl and filled it easily from one bush. In fact the bush was so laden with fruit I could have easily filled another ten bowls. The bush was a self seeded blackcurrant that I allowed to stay. No idea where it came from or it's variety, but it's certainly a heavy cropper! The easiest way I found was to snap branches off then strip them of blackcurrants, so I was effectively pruning bush at the same time.
When I looked aroud I couldn't believe how many weeds were in evidence. The last ime I hoed paths I left weeds lying to shrivel up in the sun. Instead, we have had a lot of rain (water butts full)
and the weeds sprouted again!
Once again, I went around all paths with hoe and with a warm weekend forecast hopefully my earlier plan will work this time?
I also harvested a couple of green round courgettes and a couple of yellow round courgettes, along with a carrier bag full of onions to be given to my Daughter.
I did a bit of hand weeding on the larger weeds in the beds before they spread there seed all over the place. Still lots of weeding to do but it will have to wait until another day as my back started to object!
There are still loads of onions to harvest and the beds to fill with summat else for the winter?
My favourite area of wild flowers and flowers for the bees is a joy to behold and I took a photo of it. It may upload it may not, but I will give it a try!
Called at shop and bought 2lb of sugar to make some blackcurant jam with!
