Took a strimmer I was given to the allotment to cut down the grass at the front of my plot.We used to maintain the areas/pathways around the plots until the Coucnil took over the running of the plot and doubled the plot rents.
They do nothing even though the Council grasscutters cut the lawns around the allotment site. It wouldn't be a major problem for them to open the gates and run there ride on mowers around the 'Non plot' areas within the site? But it isn't happening and the site is ging to wrack & ruin!
My intention was to strim the area in front of my plot and possibly the areas in front of my two immediate neighbours?. I finished mine but then the strimmer cut out and wouldn't start.
I used to work for the University and was involved with ordering machinery. The strimmer I was using would fall foul to the HAV's regulations.(Hand Arm Vibration) My fingers are still trembling an hour later and some amateur, and even proffessional machines like this can give Vibration White Finger if used for a dangerous amount of time!
Anyway,fenceline strimmed I moved on to some unplanned maintenance. I decided to hoe all my pathways to keep any weed growth at bay.
I was pleased to see that the thyme sseds I had sown had eventually germinated and I will transplant them when they get a bit bigger. Not so with the parsnips though as it appears that out of a full packet of seeds only three have germinated!
My autumn planted onions are maturing nicely and all the foliage is bending over. I weeded these beds and directed all the foliage that had fallen over in one direction for neatness only. A couple of the round courgettes should be available to harvest on my next visit?
