I took a big chunk of ice out of the birdbath and what made me happy was the birds splashing about in the warm water I had added from the kettle. It was supposed to be for them to drink but as long as their feathers don't freeze up I don't mind! 
Another thing that made me happy was watching, what i think were blue tits attacking the seed balls hanging up. I usually only get spuggies and starlings so this was a treat.
