Rhubarb

I've had to fence my new ones in today! Its not that they've grown massive overnight but that the dogs decided that chicken poo-enriched compost was the perfect snack and starting eating all the topping!

we had a dog years ago that used to lick the top off fresh cowpats. Sometimes he stood behind the cat waiting for a warm snack.

Mine do that with the chickens. Yuk!!

I have just transplanted my rhubarb stools into one of my raised beds.

   

Forgot to take a photo but we're about 12 inches and 8 inches on the Timperley Early and Raspberry Red varieties, respectively.

What’s wrong with my rhubarb? I split it autumn before last and harvested very little from it last year so it could establish. In autumn I top dressed with manure. This spring something has gone horribly wrong.       

Any advice would be appreciated. I should be on at least my second rhubarb crumble by now   .

No idea - best guess is something to do with the manure? Maybe too much on top of the roots and they're fighting their way through it? Hopefully not something in the manure itself. Maybe the plant is still establishing itself as there seem to be a few new shoots emerging outside the clump.

I've no idea but have found rhubarb very long to establish. Plants of Poultons Pride puchased and planted in 2017, has only started to thrive in the last couple of years. I was about to give up on it. I don't expect lack of water is a problem in your garden.
