Whilst clearing the brambles at the rear of where my new shed will be I came across this? It looks to be some sort of thornless berry? and I just wondered whether it was worth keeping?
Does anyone have any idea what it is?

Could be a tayberry, loganberry or one of that family. I have several but no idea what they are now. Wait until it flowers for a better idea. I'd keep it. Wink

I've got a thornless blackberry, so you might be lucky and get something good. I'd keep it too.

I'll be honest I remember planting a berry somewhere up that fenceline (thought it was higher up though?) a couple of years ago. I can't remember whether it was thornless or not and I think it was probably a Loganberry. If it was that, it hasn't made much growth especially as they are supposedly rampant aren't they?

Maybe it was struggling against the brambles? Or maybe it has tip rooted from its original position. I have a few that wander around, aimlessly - like me. Big Grin

My plant ID app says raspberry, but I think the leaves are a strange colour for raspberry... but I might be wrong.

Could be, but if so, it hasn't grown much since 2021? Huh

Talking of strange berries, as you all must all do on a regular basis, Smile in one of my fruit cages within a row of raspberries, I have a random very prickly berry plant. It has several fruits which are currently changing colour to pink, so might go red or black eventually. The berries are elongated so I'm thinking loganberry type. I have no idea how it got there as no new plantings have happened in that spot for years, as far as I can remember. I'm fascinated to see what the fruit are like. Do raspberries mutate? There is a smaller thorny plant with no fruit nearby. I'm debating what to do with it and in reality it will probably be left to its own devices until it proves to be rubbish. They both could be the result of bird droppings.
