Went to the plot for a few minutes after work time. Slugs have eaten both giant pumpkin seedlings, which I put out too small, among many other things. The weeds are everywhere. It's a giving up type of vibe today. Came home to immediately get more seeds out. Might as well try.

I cut the lawn this evening when it had dried out and piled the cuttings around a couple of small apple trees to keep the growing grass from swamping them and act as a mulch.

These things (slugs) are sent to try us. I lost all my courgettes to something but, I have more seedlings waiting for another go, and I shall keep sowing them until I can pick a courgette!
I had a day amongst the weeds at the far end. Months ago, I covered a big patch of ground with pond liner to kill off the weeds and grass. However, the nettles and dock have sprung up all round the covered bit, the nettles have even forced their way through the liner. But, I'll get them, I'm pulling them up and throwing then onto the pond liner where I hope they will wither and die in the sunshine (fingers crossed).

Planted out the french beans and runners on the splendid new A-frame I constructed the other day:
A Cosse Violette (purple)
Golden Gate (yellow)
Blue Lake (green)
Meuch (mottled)
Scarlet Emperor runners
Mowed the lawn and spread the clippings around the beans.

Planted out the Green Zebra tomatoes. They're my favourite so I'm growing five plants this year and they get their own sunny spot.
Planted various flowers:
Dwarf yellow sunflowers
Dwarf lime green nicotiana
Old Mexico zinnia
La Campanella fuchsias saved from last year
Sunray begonias grown from seed
Transplanted some Green Eyes rudbeckia I found which had overwintered from last year.

Spent another afternoon with the weeds at the far end. Also raked and turned all the weeds I'd left on the pond liner to bake in the sun. Wishful thinking, I know.

Yesterday I transplanted 2 orchids from the veg patch to the wild flower patch. Got a lot more to do. Then did some fridge juggling. Don’t be confused. Not fridge contents, actual fridges.
