Sorry about the photos - but you get the idea!
Have you never eaten a fruit off it because it hasn't set fruit, or because you just didnt fancy it?

The only fruit I've seen on it have been puny little things - like undernourished raspberries. Not at all tempting. If one develops this year I'll eat it and let you know. The plant grows canes, like raspberries. Not sure if that's what your plants are doing.

A while ago I started a thread asking what a rather rampant, but ornamental plant was in my garden? General consensus was that it was a Japanese Wineberry? but at the time it hadn't fruited. Well now it's fruited, and I have been eating some so I hope you're right about what it is.
Hard to describe the taste? It looks like a raspberry but has a more delicate taste. On reading up, someone likened the taste to that of sweet grapes, and I think I agree with them.
I will certainly keep the plant for it's novelty value (no idea where it came from) and maybe try and train it against the fence. I think it's 'berry' (sic) ornamental with the reddish bracts around the fruit standing out against the lime green/yellowsih foliage.
I've added a piccie below of it, as it's fruiting now.

I've merged the two threads as it will save me writing that I still haven't eaten one of these fruits. Something has beaten me to them and all that is left are the orange bits. Make the most of yours, Vinny.

Just out of interest, where did I list the original thread?
