Tonight bbq - mushroom, pepper & onion kebabs marinated in tahini, lemon, harissa & olive oil; grilled tomatoes & aubergines in a lemon & thyme dressing with feta; grilled set polenta. And nothing got dropped in the fire for a change!

Do you have a traditional or family recipe you use? I suppose I do, and it's how my mum makes them. It's simply half beef mince and half pork mince, salt, pepper, breadcrumb mixed very well preferably by hand. I add a bit of strong stock, only a few tablespoons, but enough to soften the breadcrumbs.
Then fry them in a frying pan, preferably cast iron, on low until cooked through. Make gravy by adding single cream to the pan when all the meatballs are done, whisk and add salt and pepper.
These days I add ginely chopped onion that I have fried in the pan before I mix it into the mince, and sometimes something to jazz it up, like a but of bbq sauce, relish or pesto. That's not traditional though
