A fantastic tech advice person at Motorola figured it out! There was just one obscure setting that I had turned off and needed to be turned on.
I now have my parcel - one tin opener, 10 compostable swedish dishcloths, and 12 compostable sponges. This bodes well for future Amazon purchasing (evil though they be, they are the most convenient way for me to get hold of anything I can't easily pick up at the supermarket, though that only works when I can actually get into the lockers!)

Waiting to hear how well it opens tins now, Pros.

Very well! Obviously, I had to try it right away No sharp edges - definitely a game changer. No more sliced fingers for me!
