Those memories are sad at the moment Vinny, whilst they're still raw. In time I hope they'll become poignant. I have mum's and gran's written recipe books which evoke all sorts of fond memories and impressions. Mostly about how unexciting their cuisine was. I remember mum being very proud of a spag bol when we were kids and we all thinking how exotic it was. Mind you in those days we thought a Vesta curry was exotic. To be fair mum had spent a long time in the Far East so we were used to chinese/Singaporean dishes and proper curries.

Morning All - its sunshiny here. Down o 3.9 in the GH last night!! Brrrrr.
I lost my Mum last year at the ripe old age of 100 and I have her handwritten cookery books too........and little notes that she'd keep when she went on holiday with my Dad. They'd have a vague idea of where they wanted to go - like Cornwall or Scotland so they'd load up the car and head off in that general direction. When they saw a B&B sign on a house, they'd stop there for the night. In an age before the internet or telephones that's what you did - or, if you knew where you wanted to stay, you'd write and make a booking. She wrote little reviews of the places - how welcoming, clean, food and cost. She may have been the original TripAdvisor.

Morning all, eyes cleaned so can see what I’m doing for a bit!! Jen, Paul has my sympathies it really is a rotten virus. Just spoke to my daughter, I hadn’t told her I had this cold as my granddaughter wasn’t very well. Turns out mum, dad and baby all have the same thing, put teething in the mix and you can imagine! Doctor has told her it’s a nasty virus going around and takes about 2 weeks to get over. 1 week down!
I’m loving the idea of the memory book Veggie, what a great idea!! Used to love the stories of when you visited your mum too, they should definitely be in the book.
Vinny, Kato probably thinks to himself oh here is this idiot putting a blanket on me…I best humour him for a bit!!

Afternoon all
Plans changed for the day because it was quite bright our, if not a tad cold. Decided to go to alottment, shopping will have to wait until tomorrow! Did get my winter pansies planted though, along with a few more bits and pieces.
Back home now and the sun has went in so its getting parky, time to light the woodburner methinks!

Jay, another tale that makes me laugh.
In an earlier post I said that I'd lost my Mum last year. Even writing that made me laugh because I remembered another time I lost my Mum.
I'd taken her to the hospital where she had an appointment at the Hearing Clinic. I dropped her off outside and left her to toddle along to the Clinic while I parked the car. She'd been there before so knew the way.
Finding a parking place took longer than it should have so I rushed into the hospital hoping to catch Mum as she made her way along all the corridors...........but there was no sign of her. I went into the Hearing Clinic and asked the receptionist if Mum was already being seen. No, was the reply, they hadn't seen her.
I went back outside, retraced my footsteps - no sign and I was getting a bit concerned, asking various people if they'd seen this old lady wearing a blue coat. Not much of a description really, there must have been hundreds of old ladies matching that description.
I went back to the Hearing Clinic and asked the waiting patients if they'd seen a lady with a blue coat because I'd lost my Mum.
Well, it was like Chinese Whispers...........they were all hard of hearing and misunderstood what I'd said. One would say loudly "What did she say?" and they'd repeat what they thought I'd said until, finally, the message turned into "She's lost her Mum" and there was a sighing, sad faces and a chorus of "I'm so sorry".!!
While I was trying to set the record straight, the Clinic door opened and in walked Mum with a Nurse from the Eye Clinic . She'd been sitting in the Eye Clinic waiting to be called, and for me to arrive. Eventually, they asked to see her appointment letter and realised what had happened.
Meanwhile, the Hearing Aid patients couldn't believe their eyes - it was a miracle - she had come back from the dead!!
Whenever Mum had to go to the hospital after that, I'd make her wait in reception for me to park before she set off. We always laughed about this every time we went here.

Magic memories, I've got a few like that of my own, mum and I were known as 'the double act' in the places we went regularly.
Veggie we have a bod here from your neck of the woods this morning. You know about our mini hurricane, well next door (not my computer student, the other side) had a roof tile come off. She has household repair insurance as her hubby has Parkinson's really badly, and it's peace of mind for her, so she called the insurers to sort out the tile. Now we are in Salisbury as you know, so why did the insurers call out Dragon Roofing from Swansea?? He's fine with it as its a paid job, but you can see why premiums are high

Swansea's about 60 miles further away from you than I am! He probably enjoyed the drive.
Strange weather today again - looks like is going to chuck it down any second.
We've just fitted one of those doorbell camera thingys. So far we've "captured" the DPD man and the postman. Seems a bit weird to be "spying" on people, especially legitmate callers. Saves all the walking to and fro to the front door to check whether there's been any post though
