We have a petrol generator, plus torches, candles (don't use them though), gas hob and matches, rechargeable lamp always available.
Plus I have a husband who deals with all these things. If the fuses trip I send him to the garage to sort it Big Grin, don't have as many power cuts here as we used to 30 years ago, hence the purchase of the genny. I used to look on it as a challenge before mains gas was installed, to create a meal for 3 on just one camping gas ring. Happy days.

I could use the laptop on battery but the Modem was down. Could have used mobile phone for internet - if extremely desperate - but I'm never that desperate. Wink

You guessed right, Vinnie - mine's a Ghillie kettle with a whistle.Smile This one's never been used as I lent my original one to a friend who was going camping and he insisted on buying me a new one to replace it. I've just looked for mine and there's a container of rock solid instant coffee in the bag with it!!
Hoping to do a bit of gardening today - maybe plant a couple of courgettes and CFBs - just to tempt the cold nights back. Smile

Every time I think I'll go out to play the heavens open. I put some babies out this morning to start getting used to the outside world but looking at the torrential rain at the moment it might have been a poor decision. I'll go and check when the rain stops. Fingers crossed

Morning all

Bright and sunny so will get a few more bricks laid today. I've then got to take a brick from the ones  I scrounged and try and get a match at a DIY store as I didn't scrounge enough. At least with new bricks I won't have to clean the mortar off which is quite time consuming.
Expecting my youngest son over today to see his Ma and give me a hand with whatever I am doing.

Morning, and apologies for the sudden absence! One of the shift keys on my laptop developed a fault, and it was such a pain to type on, I had to seriously cut back on non-essential computer activity Sad

The laptop was six years old and had already developed a number of other annoying "quirks", so I decided it was time to replace it. It's wonderful to have a decent keyboard again, but it took a week or so to arrive and then I had to get everything transferred over, and I didn't want to use the automated Migration Assistant as there's a lot of cr@p on the old one that I don't want to keep. 

Anyway, done now, and I can focus on more enjoyable things, like my garden!
How much veg and wildlife can I pack into a 6m x 8m garden in suburban Cambridge? Let’s find out!  Smile

Eyren, I've had something similar with my laptop - the C key fell off and you can't manage without it when its in your name and where you live! I'm using a wireless keyboard (free on freecycle Big Grin) which has saved me lots of pennies and hassle.
Looking forward to a day in the sunshine - and a bit of planting out. Enjoy your day, everyone. Smile
