Sizes

Whenever I make a cake. Which isn’t that often. I never have the right size tin, not ever! It’s infuriating. 
Anyone suffer from this?

You need more kitchen equipment.

Nope. never have that problem............................probably because I don't make cake.

I try to avoid making the kind of cake where tin size is critical. Also, I really only ever make banana bread or courgette bread, and my two sizes of loaf tin suffice for those.

Nope, don't have that problem as I've got far too many cake tins and more often than not I can convince myself the batter will fit in another shape/size. Although I had to buy a bundt tin recently as I didn't have an alternative.

I had one tin which was rectangular for making a small loaf. I recently bought a round tin from Aldi cheaply,with a loose bottom. I haven't tried it yet.  Two cake tins are deffo enough for me.

I also have a contraption that builds into almost any square shape you can think of, especially for Christmas/wedding cake. Definite overkill.

I just make the cake fit the tin generally. Both my sister and I use the same Christmas cake recipe, but mine ends up much smaller but taller than hers. They both taste great. On one occasion when I had too much cake batter for the tin I just cooked the extra in the bottom of another tin as a thin layer and then froze it to use in the bottom of trifle at a later date.
