Sorry I have another question on this.
I think we've agreed the leeks won't get fatter so eat them as and when now.
If I was to save the bottom inch or so to replant are they likely to get fatter next year?
Thanks in advance.....

Could you show us your skinny leeks as it may be that you're expecting too much in November. Mine stay in the ground all winter, there's no rush to dig them up.

I forgot to plant out my leeks and they stood in a pot all summer, then I planted out some very slender less than pencil thick plants having taken pity on them. They're sitting there quite happily but not really growing. I don't expect much from them but they can stay in the ground til I need the space. I'm a rubbish leek grower so can't offer any good advice.

I'm happy to leave them in although I was earmarking some of the space for the jerusalem artichokes. Do you know If I can just store the tubers and plant out next year?
Many thanks.....

Leeks are one of the veg that do put on weight over they winter months.Use what you need and leave the others to grow on and your two pencils could become four by March!
JA's grow very tall so don't plant them where they will shade other plants.I have a row along a fence line which acts as a wind break (If you will excuse the pun)
