I don't grow them but was told that they're best grown from offsets rather than seed as the latter don't always flower.

I've had them for years, always grown from seed because I can't get the offsets to take Sad but one of my vert de Laon is clearly a cardoon!
I like the small purple ones best and pick them tiny and chokeless. Last year one plant gave over 30 heads Smile

I am growing some from seed this year - Gros Vert de Laon and Violet de Provence. I have had excellent germination, so I now have way, way more seedlings than I need. I really hope they do work out okay, as I will be devoting a good chunk of garden to one plant of each.
Formerly self-contained, but expanding my gardening horizons beyond pots!

I grow them have done for a few years, never get many but they're not in the sunniest spot. I'm planning on a reshuffle in the veg patch soon so they may very well move to the sunnier bit of a new bed if I get round to it.

Bumping this with another question, I'm on my 2nd try at growing them but they always seem to get either eaten or just die back, any advice welcome.

I have one at home in a pot that is doing well but as for the plot, argh
