I have given in and brought in the tray from the GH. At least there may be some chance of sowing each day then. I feel I'm taking lessons in Latin names from Veggie and NG

JJB I'm sowing Bargain basement seeds from Chiltern Seeds and their seeds are listed by Latin name. After years of reading their catalogues I use the Latin name automatically, Its more specific than using the common name as they often mean different things to people

Did you know that Penstemon is part of the Scrophulariaceae family which are commonly known as Beard Tongues because they have a 5th stamen.

Scrophula/Scrofula was the King's Evil - swelling of the lymph glands in the neck (later found to be tuberculosis) and could be cured by the Touch of the King.

I'm fascinated by plant names and their origins.

My Door No. 6 is hiding Passiflora amethystina / passion flower https://www.chilternseeds.co.uk/item_958...methystina.

The sowing instructions are to scarify the seeds between 2 sheets of sandpaper, then soak for 24 hours in warm water or fruit juice.

The fruit juice bit is a new one for me!! Mine will have a warm water bath and that's it.

I’d love to try Passion flowers up here one day. I used to grow them in Somerset.

Behind door no. 6 I've found an envelope of thistle seeds, again from my Mum's garden.

I recall her asking "Why are you taking weed seeds to France?". How rude! They might be weeds, but I'll call them wild flowers

My no. 6 door is ascelpias, which I'd never heard of. It's old seed from a generic pkt of bee friendly seeds. I have since learned - thankyou once again to the internet - it's milkweed of some sort.
