Your August Butterfly spotting Challenge is here.
I saw a Gatekeeper yesterday - wonder if its still in the GH?

Again not likely to see many of the. But I’ll definitely report back if I do.

Thanks Veggie, I'll keep a lookout for them if they sit still long enough.

Loads of gatekeepers and a few large whites yesterday. Lots more bees as well, which is nice.

I saw a huge butterfly yesterday. At first glance I thought it was a small bird, flapping its wings but when it settled on the trunk of the old ash tree, I could see it was a butterfly - brownish orange with dark speckles. I think it was a Fritillary of some sort. Maybe this one:- https://butterfly-conservation.org/butte...fritillary
By contrast, I also saw a Mint moth on the oregano - its about the size of my little finger nail.
Neither of these feature in the August I-Spy list.

That fritillary was unusual, good spotting. The gatekeepers are two a penny ATM with whites a close second. A red admiral settled on my shoulder in the garden yesterday. I felt quite honoured.
