Vacuum sealer

Today I acquired a "Foodsaver V3840" and 7 rolls of Vacuum sealing plastic stuff. - all FREE of course.  Wink
I'm hoping that some of you use a Vacuum sealer and can give me some hints on what to use it for. At the moment, all I can think of is dehydrated veg/fruit. Wondering whether fresh green beans and sliced courgettes would be better "vacuumed" before freezing as I'm not a fan of frozen beans & courgettes.

All advice welcome.  Cool

I have one. Brilliant things. Anything that goes in the freezer can be vacuum packed. Just thing with sauce can’t be done. Unless you have a fancy one that seals but doesn’t take all the air out.
I know you don’t really like frozen veggies but I think you should try a few things you don’t normally like. Things to keep better ( I think).

Thanks SC. I thought you had one!
I think it seals without taking the air out, if you want to just seal a bag. For "sealing" liquids, you freeze the liquid in a block in the freezer, then seal the block.
One thing that I'm unlikely to do - seal a part eaten bag of crisps!!

Ooh freezing liquid first. I’d not thought of that. Thanks.
Half bag of crisps! What’s that?  Big Grin

"Sauces, soups and stews" Storage life - 1-2 years compared to 3-6 months.

Ooohh, that looks interesting. I want one! Think of all the £5 pantry stuff you could vacuum pack. It'll save loads of space in the freezer. I've just seen a demo video of it using canisters and marshmallows, fascinating.

I saw that marshmallow demo too. Who'd have thought they'd squish up so small!. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the containers - but I do have the little hose thing!. Apparently you can suck the air out of wine bottles and Mason jars too BUT you need to have the bottle stoppers and jar lids to do so.
I like the idea of buying a huge block of cheese (cheaper) and cutting it into smaller blocks (keeps for 4-8 months in the fridge, instead of 1-2 weeks).

Using all those plastic bags put me off. I always re use tubs with lids. I eat soup a lot but find most soups are better fresh. I dry the beans rather than freezing.

Wouldn't be without mine, no freezer burn and saves a lot of space. I vacuum pack veggies in portion sizes and just pierce the bags and microwave. Vacuum packed salmon is boil in the bag.
