Shredded paper

After shredding all the bills and other paper (not glossy stuff) I put a layer in the hotbin and I used to put the remainder in the chicken run for the chooks to kick around.  Now that I'm chookless I've been wondering how else to use it. 
Has anyone used it as mulch - wetted to stop it blowing away?

I've not used it as a mulch but I have a 2 stage compost heap used mainly for weeds but also some paper and cardboard. The side I accumulated last year will be used next year and the side I'm filling up this year will be used the year after. Small boxed and paper bags (like 16kg flour bags from Shipton Mill) go on whole. I think slugs and time do a good job of breaking them down. I do have a hot bin as well, acquired before Covid at a flower show. It's used mainly for kitchen waste especially stuff that might attract rats. Any shredded paper is used in our composting toilet .

Thanks Mark. I did put some shredded paper (and greens) in one of the outdoor compost bins last year but the rats moved in which was a bit off-putting!
Don't think I could use it in the toilet as the strips aren't wide enough for toilet paper.

Can you store it in a big box/ bucket to add to your hot bin as and when? Or maybe in an old compost bag tied to garage/ shed rafters so rodents can’t move in?

I've lots more old papers to shred so don't want to hoard it. The alternative is the bonfire.

You could always burn it then put the ash into the compost bin, it is potash afterall as paper comes from tree pulp.

You may find some small animal rescues would like shredded paper for bedding.

They will take it but I'd rather use it if I can.

I use mine in the bottom of the kitchen caddy it makes cleaning it easier. Rest goes in the compost bin layered between other stuff.
