Bird boxes

Bob made some bird boxes last week when we got rained off from building one day last week.

   

We put them up yesterday morning

         

No one has moved in yet! 

We’ll probably make some more out of cladding off cuts .

The owl men have just been and we have 2 chicks, about 25 days old. We put up the barn owl box about 5 years ago (or rather paid South Cheshire Barn Owl group to put one up for us and they come each year to monitor it) and they have reared about 10 chicks in that time. They should return in a couple of weeks to ring them before they leave the nest.

Have your bird boxes been used this year do you know SC?

That’s great Mark. I’ve not noticed anyone using the bird boxes we put up.

Between showers this morning I put up a swallow nesting bowl. They had started building in that spot but it collapsed. So I bought one. Hopefully they will use it. Currently they’re flying in and out of the garage. So maybe too late.

   

And we have house martins nesting on the porch. Can’t get a decent photo of it

We have swallows nesting too. They fly into the barn on the gable end where there's a hole that once had a window lol They don't like us going into the open bit. I hope they eat all the mosquitos!
We have birds in all the bird houses here, and I think we have five. We'll make more for next year

They are using the nesting bowl already. They are currently doing some home improvements to it   . I’m so happy and surprised they’re using it. I thought they’d of taken longer to check out this new thing that has appeared. Maybe not even used it until next year. But no, well under a week. Think it was Wednesday I noticed additions had been added to it. Very very happy
