My lilies

As I am not really a flower grower I just thought I’d show off some very tall lilies I planted 2 years ago, they flowered last year and again this year, the perfume off them is fantastic not like that horrible smell you get from those lilies that appear in every bouquet of flowers.

My day lilies are nearly ready to flower but the ornamentals aren’t even close to flowering yet.

Love the colour of those 3.

My Asiatic (no smell) and Oriental (do smell) lilies are almost finished  now,
Lots of day lilies however.

Hemerocallis/ Day lilies and they're edible. Big Grin I've eaten the flowers, young leaves and the tubers!

My first one opened today. Unfortunately it’s been raining so hard it’s all battered and bruised. So I’ll look forward to trying the second one that opens.

I don't recommend the tubers as that means digging up the plant and killing it (same with dahlia tubers).
I snack on the flowers (and courgette flowers) and the young leaves are best before they get long and strappy.

NB This is does NOT apply to the lilies in Can & Vinny's photos - don't eat those!!!!!!!

All my lillies both day and oriental are over and gone. The Orientals were in pots in the heatwave and drooped and dropped but they were a lovely bit of colour in bloom. Cans and vinny's look lovely.
