Plant them in a pot/bucket with holes in the side. Then you can take them out if they get too much. They get very tangled with dead slimy leaves in winter so benefit from a bit of pruning. I'm growing some in a plastic dog bed. No flowers yet but they were just tiny bits of root when I put them there last year.
Could you grow Marsh marigolds?
